This page gathers testimonies collected directly from practitioners and members of the Tomatis network, for the alfred-tomatis.fr site. Each person speaks in their own name and has given their consent for the publication of their testimony. The texts are presented in their original language (Spanish) and in English translation.

Teacher, Tomatis practitioner — former secretary of the AltomTomatis association

My name is María del Carmen Morante, I am a teacher, and I have known the Tomatis method since 2004 — so I have been working with it for nearly eighteen years. My reason for wanting to train in it was simple: I worked with children who were struggling at school and needed support after their regular classes, and I could see that the effort these children made was quite out of proportion to the results they obtained. I felt there had to be some way of helping them other than insisting on memorisation, when what they had learned one day was so often lost the next.

It was then that a friend told me about this method. I did the training, and I have been in love with it ever since, because I have seen incredible results in children and in adults too, but above all in children: when they have listening difficulties, they are utterly drained of energy, because they never finish their work at school, they always make an excessive effort and never manage to reach their goals.

I was also secretary of the AltomTomatis association. In that role, I handled correspondence with the various members of the association and circulated information concerning our essential activity: applying the method in our centres.

Mi nombre es María del Carmen Morante, mi profesión es maestra y conozco la técnica Tomatis desde 2004, con lo cual he trabajado con esta técnica durante aproximadamente dieciocho años. Mi interés por hacer la formación fue el siguiente: yo trabajaba con niños que tenían dificultades en la escuela y necesitaban un apoyo después de salir de las clases habituales, y veía que en estos niños el esfuerzo era bastante exagerado para los resultados que obtenían. Pensé que algo tendría que haber para poder ayudarles, que no fuera insistir en la memorización, cuando al día siguiente se había perdido lo aprendido el día antes.

Entonces fue cuando, a través de un amigo, me hablaron de esta técnica. Hice la formación y desde entonces soy una enamorada de ella, porque he visto resultados increíbles en niños y también en adultos, pero sobre todo en los niños: cuando tienen dificultades de escucha, están energéticamente muy desgastados, porque nunca terminan las tareas en la escuela, siempre hacen un esfuerzo excesivo y no llegan a conseguir los objetivos.

Además, fui secretaria de la asociación AltomTomatis. Entre mis funciones estaba el intercambio de correos con los diferentes socios de la asociación y el envío de información referente a nuestra actividad esencial, que es aplicar la técnica en nuestros centros.

My name is Rafael Santiago, I am a psychologist. I had the privilege of meeting Dr Tomatis in the early 1990s, and being with him and learning at his side was such a transformative experience that I decided to train in his knowledge and his method, which in those days was just beginning to be known in Spain. Today it is very widely known, thanks to the remarkable effects of listening therapy, now familiar all over the world; it has spread everywhere and has been able to help people of all ages and at every stage of life, from pregnancy to old age.

It is a wonderful thing to be able to share with you this knowledge gathered over thirty years of experience, together with my colleagues, so that we may pass it on to you and so that this work may continue — for at least another thirty years.

Me llamo Rafael Santiago, soy psicólogo. Tuve el privilegio de conocer al doctor Tomatis a principios de los años noventa, y para mí estar con él y aprender a su lado fue un trabajo tan transformador que decidí formarme en sus conocimientos y en su método, que en aquellos tiempos empezaba a ser novedoso en España. Hoy ya está tremendamente divulgado, y es gracias a esos efectos maravillosos que produce la terapia de escucha, ya muy conocida en todo el planeta, porque se ha divulgado por todas partes y ha podido ayudar a muchas personas de todas las edades y en todos los momentos, desde el embarazo hasta la tercera edad.

Entonces, es maravilloso poder compartir con vosotros estos conocimientos adquiridos a lo largo de treinta años de experiencia, junto con mis compañeros, para que podamos transmitíroslos y que este trabajo siga adelante por lo menos otros treinta años más.

Hello, I am Margarita López. I am a teacher, a psychologist and a Tomatis therapist. I discovered Dr Tomatis’s method twenty years ago, at a very difficult time in my life. It helped me so much, in such a way and at so deep a level, that I decided to train as a therapist. Another thing that filled me with enthusiasm about this method is the possibility of helping children.

I have worked essentially with children, without overloading their schedules, which are already so full. It is a method that makes it possible to stimulate them, to help them resolve their difficulties without making them work to excess, giving them all the energy, all the vitality and all the hope that can lift them out of those difficulties. I work in Segovia, and my wish is to pass on not only our knowledge but also our conviction: that helping through Dr Tomatis’s method is possible, and wonderful.

Hola, soy Margarita López. Soy maestra, psicóloga y terapeuta Tomatis. Conocí hace veinte años la técnica del doctor Tomatis en un momento muy difícil para mí, y me ayudó tanto, de tal manera y a un nivel tan profundo, que decidí hacer la formación como terapeuta. Otra cosa que me entusiasmó de la técnica es la posibilidad de ayudar a niños.

He trabajado fundamentalmente con niños, sin sobrecargar sus agendas, ya de por sí tan sobrecargadas. Es una técnica que permite estimularles, ayudarles a resolver sus problemas sin hacerles trabajar en exceso, dándoles toda la energía, toda la vitalidad y toda la esperanza que les puede sacar de esos problemas. Trabajo en Segovia y mi deseo es transmitir no solo nuestros conocimientos, sino nuestro sentimiento de que ayudar a través de la técnica del doctor Tomatis es posible y maravilloso.
